twindowpane is now live
After a few weeks of working on this little project in the evenings and at weekends I am now proud to announce that the site is live.
Twindowpane is a mozaic of twitter profile pictures built from a random selection of people who follow @twindowpane. Initially it was intended to have tags and display the top people in each tag but dear old Kevin Rose beat me to the idea with wefollow.com.
However, listening to public opinion, I discovered that these popularity lists are only useful for people who already have the following. Quick uptakers and people with large followings get the benefit but new users and those with fewer followers are rarely seen.
Twindowpane benefits the users who have fewer followers because, apart from the site sponsors, everyone is equal.
Every time the page is displayed a randow selection of 350 followers are show on the page.
As well as monetizing the site, the sponsors (top 2 rows if/when full) get the benefit of being displayed every time (though they are randomly ordered everytime too) and reaching an audience even though they may have few followers.
The Sponsors are also good people to follow, because if they are willing to spend mony to get in the window, they must have something to say. So expect regular tweets from these twitterers.
I hope you all like the twindowpane and if there are any web2.0 designers out there you might also be intersted in the competition that is running. look for the link at the top of the twindowpane.
